It's wong kar wai's birthday and i celebrated by watching Happy Together while taking a hot bath, i have a small tv with a built in vcr in my bathroom. I know that's weird i don't usually use it too often though. Anyway i can not express how much i enjoy wong kar wai's movies. The breathtaking cinematography done by long time collaborator, Christopher Doyle, the jumpy flashing scenes of activity and brooding strung together with this perfect narration that helps creates the story rather than just reading it off. His ability to craft sympathetic characters, showing just enough action while still keeping it heavy with emotion and the music!
My favorite was always Fallen Angels, it's just a perfect, stylish, cute movie with super cool characters and a nice flow. But i feel like i have to cast more attention to movies like happy together and in the mood for love because those are the movies i feel like will be my favorites when i'm 30. His way of depicting sorry relationships is so stirring and it's something so classic the emotional intensity between his characters are something that i can see being timeless.
